The Student Experience in Pond Road Residence

Pond is a unique building on campus as we are the only one with suites that only have two residents and include full kitchens.  This allows for extra privacy, when necessary, but also space for connection and friendship. We are also a community of mostly upper year students, but also love the energy and new experiences that our first year students bring. Pond is a building that is full of students that are always eager to be involved in events and participate in activities hosted by the Dons.  Another nice thing about Pond is the wide variety of academic interests, as many of the students belong to the different Colleges and students are able to come together to connect with one another and truly expand the idea of interdisciplinary learning. Some events that we hold dear to us include our Spa Nights, Multicultural Fair, Pond-Con and The Zoo Comes to Pond.

A Welcome from your Residence Life Coordinator

My name is Melanie Howard and I am the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) for Pond Residence. I first want to welcome you to the vibrant community here at Pond. I hope that while you are here you will grow to call Pond your second home. Residence is where you are encouraged to be yourself and grow as a person.

As the RLC I oversee the residence community and assist you through your development at York. To help me with this are amazing student leaders called Dons. The Dons are here to help you transition into university life and become a strong and independent person, ready for the challenges that university can hold. Together we will work to ensure that Pond is a safe and inclusive space.

As the year moves along there will be many opportunities to become involved in the residence and I highly encourage you to make the most of your time with us. I recommend that you look over the Residence Handbook and the Student Code of Rights and Responsibilities as they are key tools in ensuring that your transition into living in residence is a smooth one.

Finally, I hope that you find your time here in Pond to be a rewarding and eye opening experience that helps you discover your true potential.
