Residence Life Spirit Cup Competition (with more to come!)

This year Residence Life kicked off the Spirit Cup events with a bang!  The Spirit Cup competition was designed to strengthen the sense of community created in residence where students living in these communities can show their pride for their home away from home!  Each residence holds various events throughout the year and based on resident participation, they earn points towards winning the Spirit Cup.  These events give students the opportunity to collaborate with other key campus partners and organizations as well as develop relationships and connections that will support their success and enhance their satisfaction here at YorkU.

Our first event happened during one of the busiest but most fun times of the year- Orientation Day!  During this day, we interacted with hundreds of students and played minute to win it games.  There were 3 minute to win it challenges and the winners not only won points towards the Spirit Cup but also got to get food first at the BBQ later that day.

The next Spirit Cup challenge was the Red and White Day lobby decorating.  Each residence came up with a theme, like the YU Jungle, to show off their York Pride in the lobby of their building.  For some buildings, this meant having an interactive activity (eg. create your own lion and why you love YU post-its wall) and for others, it was showing off their creative side like the plates decorated and designed by Bethune’s residents in the building for the big day!

At our next event, over 100 residents got to show off their spooky side and participate in a Halloween themed trivia night.  The night included nachos (yum!) and extra points for residents that wore costumes.  The night included music trivia, horror trivia, and York U trivia.

This month, each residence gets to show off their fundraising skills as they come together around the cause of their choice, to raise donations and awareness!  This will include interactive events as well as passive donation boxes in their residence.  The residence that is able to raise the most funds for a good cause will be one step closer to winning the Spirit Cup.

We can’t wait to see what the dedicated students of residence life have in store for us next!
